ARTIST'S STATEMENT
"My overarching concern throughout the 40+ years of making art is the natural world and the preservation of the environment. My pursuit follows three threads: life, water, and air. Since the 1980s, I have painted nature's demise using symbols of the damage such as flooded woodlands, sinking ships, and titles like The Warning or In Harm's Way; a little heavy handed." - Beth Rowe
MEET THE ARTIST
BETH ROWE
Beth Rowe studied abstract expressionism with the legendary teacher, Vyclav Vytlacil at the Arts Students League in New York. Her mixed media and installation work of the 1990s used funeral imagery such as obelisks and urns as memorials to lost species and to express her personal melancholy.
Rowe's latest work uses both abstract and realistic imagery. This subject borderlines the edge between order and chaos with the poignancy of beauty realized and lost. Her mediums include oil paint on canvas or colored pencil, watercolor, and pastels on paper.
